Aims and content
Based on the Pareto Principle, the “Pitfalls” seminars focus on words and issues that cause a disproportionately large amount of grief for translators and editors working from German into English. In response to popular demand, this seventh incarnation of the series revisits material from seminars I‒VI, providing a core compendium of terms and expanding and updating them where necessary to reflect new options. The key areas covered are business, management and reporting, plus political and cultural developments. As ever, terms and phrases are examined in context, and their meaning and best-practice translations discussed using real-life examples.
Deliverables
At the end of this seminar, participants will
• Have gained a deeper understanding of key new concepts and terms
• Be aware of different alternatives and approaches to dealing with them
• Be sensitized to their correct usage in English and to any associated translation problems
• Have a useful set of best-practice materials for ready reference
Target group
The seminar is aimed at native and non-native translators, revisers and editors of English texts. It will be delivered in English.
