Pitfalls VIII - Moving Targets: New and Changing Terms and Phrases, and How to Deal with Them

It is a truth universally acknowledged in today’s business world that change is the only constant. But what does this mean for the language used, and for language workers? What neologisms must we be aware of? What new equivalents must we take on board and what old ones should we deemphasize? How can we recognize and handle such cases, and distinguish confidently between good and bad style, jargon and technical language? How do we write engagingly but appropriately for multiple target groups? And what role do different language and cultural variants play in this process?

Building on the established Pitfalls format, this seminar will discuss these and other questions using a range of old and new terms from finance, reporting and general business as they are (or should be) used in practice.
