Deborah Fry M.A. (Cantab.), Dip. Trans
Translator and Language Consultant
Deborah Fry is a specialist German-to-English translator and language consultant based in Mainz, Germany. She has an M.A. in Law and Oriental Studies from the University of Cambridge and professional translation qualifications from both the UK and Germany. After coming to Germany in 1982, she worked as an editor, translator, technical writer and communications specialist before setting up and running the language services department for a major international software house. She then co-founded and ran a specialist language services company for twenty years. She was also a member of the DIN NAT 3.1 working group that developed the now superseded DIN 2345 Translation Contracts (quality) standard.
Deborah Fry's core business as a translator and reviser is producing high-quality translations of the complex legal/financial texts typically needed by large enterprises. Key areas of specialization include corporate management, corporate governance and supervisory issues; financial and fund reporting; sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting; real estate; and human resources.
In her seminars, Deborah Fry draws not only on her subject area expertise but also on her decades of experience as a working translator and revisor. This allows her to provide examples of, and solutions for, the concrete problems and pitfalls that translators face. This hands-on knowledge is flanked by her experience of developing and implementing translation management and quality assurance procedures, and reference and teaching materials. An experienced lecturer, she trained over 150 staff members and interns in her previous roles and has also held numerous in-house and external seminars on translation issues.
